Have you ever been disappointed by an adult?
Packed Up
Georgie Rae Jasso, 11th grade

The day started out normally enough. My dad went to work early in the morning as usual, and came home after. However, from that point on, the day did not progress as it should have. He had just finished his dinner—spaghetti his favorite—made by my mom. She was the best cook, the best mom, and the best wife. If only my dad believed that too.
“I have to run an errand,” he called out to my mom as she was doing the dishes.
“Oh, oh, can I come?” I asked. I had been home all day and needed the fresh air.
“Um...yeah if you would like to...,” he replied hesitantly. This was strange, but I was distracted by the thought of getting out of the house.

During the ride, he asked about school; I asked about work. We joked around.
The ride ended at a diner. “Gosh, Dad, we just had dinner and you’re hungry again?” I joked.
He gave a nervous laugh. “No actually I’m meeting a friend here,” he replied.
“Oh, OK,” I said.
